About this coin

Queen Elizabeth's dedicated, successful and extraordinarily long reign had significantly delayed the accession of King Charles III to the throne. In fact, there was a slight tinge of unbelievability when it finally came to pass, creating an ccasion worthy of great celebration in tribute to his new reign. King Charles will be aged 74 at the coronation, making him the oldest new monarch to have been crowned. Camilla, the Queen Consort, will also be anointed and crowned in the same ceremony. This will be shorter and somewhat smaller in scale than previous coronations, but will contain the key elements, both traditional and modern. Its up-to-date outlook will reflect King Charles' role in today's society with due recognition of diversity and a forward-looking stance heeding the spirit of our times. Like previous coronations going back over the centuries, that of King Charles will combine the expected religious ritual and symbolism: he will be blessed, anointed and consecrated by the Archbishop of Canterbury. The Royal Regalia, last used at the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, will figure prominently. Representing the powers and responsibilities of the monarch, they include the Sovereign’s Sceptre with Cross, the Sovereign’s Orb, and the Coronation Spoon. The famous Imperial State Crown (St Edward's Crown) will be worn by the King as he and the Queen leave Westminster Abbey. The Bradford Mint is especially proud to celebrate the once-in-a-lifetime event with this exclusive, limited edition Coronation Silver Proof, embellished with a Royal Purple SvenkaTM Crystal, its reverse (pictorial side) shows a finely detailed portrait of our new King in full regalia seated on the coronation throne with sceptre and orb. Symbols of the crown and Royal Cypher face him. The circumference shows the heraldic inscriptions CHARLES III REX CORONAT MMXXIII and King by the Grace of God - 6th May 2023. The obverse of this remarkable royal keepsake features portraits of King Charles' forebears: his mother Queen Elizabeth II, grandfather King George VI and great-grandfather King George V. As a strictly limited edition memento, it is destined to remain highly desirable and valuable.
