Since the wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge in 2011, millions of people have followed the story of Britain’s future king and queen with mounting interest. Their growing family continues to fascinate people around the world as the youngest royals take their place in one of the most famous dynasties of all time: the British Royal Family.

2013 saw the birth of Prince George, the Duke and Duchess’ first child and third in line to the throne, followed by a daughter, Princess Charlotte, two years later. In 2018 came another precious arrival to the family, with the birth of their third child Prince Louis of Cambridge. Born on 23rd April 2018 at St Mary’s Hospital, London, Prince Louis Arthur Charles is Her Majesty the Queen’s sixth great-grandchild.

As in line with royal tradition Prince Louis’ christening was conducted on 9th July 2018 at The Chapel Royal in St James's Palace, London and was performed by the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Reverend Justin Welby.

Traditional elements of a royal christening include the lace and satin christening gown and the use of a specially designed royal font, called the “Lily Font’, containing holy water from the river Jordan.

The Lily Font has been used in almost every royal christening since 1840, commissioned by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert for their first child, Princess Victoria. Usually residing in the Tower of London along with the Crown Jewels as part of the Royal Collection, the design of this highly ornate christening font is centred upon a lily flower motif to represent purity and water lilies to signify new life, with cherubs playing lyres at the base. The font is made from silver gilt that gives the appearance of gold.

The first coin in this prestigious set celebrates the birth of Prince Louis in 2018 and features a traditional shield arrangement with cherubs, oak sprigs and ribbons, topped with a lion and crown which is layered with pure 24 carat gold.

The second coin features a ‘top-down’ view of the Lily Font to celebrate the christening of Prince Louis. This solid silver coin is struck in high relief and richly layered with pure 24 carat gold to match the actual font used in the baptisms of the royal family.

Both coins in this exclusive set have been struck to proof standard, which means they are the finest quality possible. They are both solid silver one crown coins with pure 24 carat gold accents, and both coins feature elements of high relief in their intricate designs. The obverse features the current portrait of Queen Elizabeth II.

Together, these symbolic coins celebrate the joyous arrival of a new prince and another chapter in the most captivating story of the century.
