About this set

Celebrating the 75th Birthday of King Charles III: May his reign be both happy and glorious! The birthday of His Majesty, King Charles III falls on 14 November 2023, half a year after his coronation, preceded by many years as heir apparent. An earlier celebration in mid-June, during Britain’s summer weather (generally better for major outdoor events that feature so prominently). Among these, the Trooping the Colour remains one that has marked the British sovereign's official birthday for the last 260 years. Being both a celebration and a military event, it involved some 1,400 parading soldiers, 200 horses and 400 musicians who become part of a procession going from Buckingham Palace along The Mall to Horse Guards Parade and back again. The events also included complex military drills and the annual RAF fly-past at 1pm followed by the Royal Family’s official balcony appearance. Typically huge, enthusiastic, cheering, flag-waving crowds were very much in evidence, having recently been in a saddened, sombre mood after the recent passing of King Charles' mother, the much loved Queen Elizabeth II. In a break from tradition, King Charles joined the Trooping the Colour parade on horseback; in doing so, he revived the tradition that his mother had given up in 1986 at the age of 60, no longer horse-riding publicly. Given that our new King was 15 years older at the time, his decision was not without some element of risk but all went well. The Bradford Exchange is extremely proud to celebrate the joyous event with this exclusive, limited edition Five Crown coin. Its reverse (pictorial side) features a pennant bearing the legend Happy and Glorious, relaying the best wishes of us all. The most prominent feature of the splendid design is the twin-spray arrangement of delphiniums, King Charles' favourite flower, prominent in his gardens. His age numeral sits prominently in the centre, top-and-tailed by the Crown and his personal seal. The obverse of this remarkable collectible features the King's official coin profile. Truly a wonderful memento, for royalty aficionados and history enthusiasts.
