In all over 60,000 Australian defence force personnel - including ground troops, air force, navy, medical and ancillary personnel - served in Vietnam, 523 losing their lives as a result of the war and almost 2,400 being wounded. The Australian commitment to the Vietnam War consisted predominantly of army personnel, but significant numbers of air force, navy personnel and civilians also took part.
