About this set

On May 6th, 2023 the world witnessed one of the most momentous and significant royal occasions in the history of the United Kingdom and The Commonwealth. Bringing together the four nations of The United Kingdom over four days of official national celebrations, with joyful concerts and street parties up and down the country, the long-awaited Coronation of King Charles III and his wife, Queen Camilla was celebrated by millions. From the carriages in The King’s Procession to and from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Abbey, the anointing and crowning of the Monarch by the Archbishop of Canterbury to the coronation regalia bestowed upon The King, the lavish coronation day of this modern-day Monarch was steeped in centuries-old tradition, pomp and pageantry. The fortieth reigning monarch to be crowned in Westminster Abbey and at 74 years old, the oldest new monarch in British history, Charles continues over one thousand years of unbroken British lineage and is the first monarch to be publicly anointed at his Coronation - this sacred anointment previously being conducted in privacy underneath a golden canopy. Westminster Abbey has seen the coronation of 39 British monarchs since 1066, with the famed Rose Window bearing witness to many. Bathing the Coronation Theatre in sunlight, the South-facing Rose Window is the pinnacle of Gothic architecture - representing unity and wholeness due to its formation from perfectly balanced parts. To mark this historic event, renowned numismatic artist Jody Clark has created a timeless coin to be treasured. The reverse features the Royal Standard, the floral symbols of England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland, coronation regalia and architectural features from within Westminster Abbey. The obverse, designed exclusively for this coin, features the Jody Clark effigy of Charles III on an intricate background inspired by the spectacular Cosmati Pavement - the centuries-old mosaic flooring he will be crowned upon. The Bradford Mint is especially proud to offer our most discerning royal and general coin collectors.
