‘HER LATE MAJESTY’S LAST VISIT TO AUSTRALIA FIVE OUNCE COMMEMORATIVE’
In October 2011, Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II returned to Australia for the final time in her role as Queen of Australia and Head of the Commonwealth. During the visit, The Queen travelled to several major cities, including Canberra, Brisbane, Melbourne, and Perth, reaffirming her long-standing connection with the Australian people.
At a reception held in her honour at Parliament House in Canberra on 21 October 2011, the Prime Minister, Julia Gillard, described The Queen as “a vital constitutional part of Australian democracy.” In her response, The Queen reflected on the resilience of Australians following a year marked by natural disasters, praising the courage and determination shown in the face of hardship. She also spoke of her personal connection to the nation, noting the extraordinary growth and progress she had witnessed since her first visit in 1954.
The Queen concluded her Australian tour in Perth, where she attended the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, bringing together leaders from across the Commonwealth. This visit would become her final journey to Australia, marking the end of an era and leaving a lasting impression on a nation that had welcomed her warmly for more than half a century.
