​​​‘200th Shield Anniversary Piedfort Sovereign’

The first gold sovereign to ever feature the ‘Shield of Arms’ design was minted in 1825. Since that time the ‘Shield’ has featured on the coins of five monarchs and in 2025 that original shield design was struck once more on a special anniversary release. This is the first time this original design from the 1820s has been struck to Proof standards, and this particular coin is the first time it has been struck in a double-weight PIEDFORT edition. With an original mintage only 1,250 coins - which The Royal Mint completely[AB1]  sold out of - The Bradford Mint is honoured to offer our avid sovereign collectors this edition in its Royal Mint case of issue, along with a numbered certificate.
