The year was 1941. The holidays were just getting started. An average American boy barely out of school gathers around the old console radio with his family. They listen intently to President Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s live address to the nation, “Yesterday, December 7th, 1941, a date which will live in infamy, the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan”.

Apprehensive, yet resolute the boy realises he’s about to become a man. All packed up, he says his goodbyes. His father, trying to hide his emotion, instructs, “When it gets tough and you wonder if it’s worth it, look at these coins from home.” The dad places 5 small coins in his hand and his mother tearfully hands him a photo and kisses his cheek. This set of coins represents the coinage that may have been in the pockets of some American soldiers.

This set contains every denomination that was issued during the war years. The coins are over 70 years old. Remarkably, they have been preserved in their mint state.
