Born Gaius Julius Caesar on 13th July 100BC, and known by his cognomen Julius Caesar, was a Roman politician, military general and emperor who played a critical role in the events that led to the demise of the Roman Republic and the rise of the Roman Empire.

This silver Denar is over 2000 years old and was minted under the aegis of Gaius Julius Caesar. The obverse of the coin shows an elephant, which is a symbol of the rule of Caesar, who trampled his enemies in the form of a snake. On the reverse you can see religious utensils, which symbolize Caesar’s office as “Pontifex Maximus”, the highest priest in Rome. He held this office from 63 BC to his death on the 15th March 44BC when he was assassinated as a result of a conspiracy by many Roman senators led by Gaius Cassius Longinus, Decimus Junius Brutus Albinus, and Marcus Junius Brutus .
