Specifications

This coin is unique in many ways including that it is from a very early strike, therefore of the very highest quality, being awarded the grade of ‘perfect’ proof standard 70/70 points by NGC grading services.

Complete with numbered certificate, it features a portrait of Prince Philip, the likeness of which was approved by His Royal Highness. This is rare in itself, as he is the first ever Royal Consort ever shown on British coinage.

After a short but distinguished naval career, Prince Philip began a new life as a loyal consort to Queen Elizabeth. Over some eight decades he has devoted himself to endless public appearances with Her Majesty and innumerable worthy causes.

To recognise his enormous contributions, the Royal Mint struck this special Five Pound commemorative gold crown which fittingly bears the Latin inscription “NON SIBI SED PATRIAE”, meaning “Not for himself but for his country”.

A coin of this quality is rare enough in itself. But one featuring Prince Philip makes it all the more collectable. Its extreme low worldwide mintage of 350 will mean high demand so early action is recommended
