Specifications

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II celebrates two birthdays each year, her actual birthday on 21st April and her official Birthday on 10th June. To commemorate Her Majesty’s milestone 90th Birthday – the first for any British Monarch – this new coin was issued on behalf of the British Virgin Island has been produced in the unique shape of the number 90.

This stunning coin has been produced in Fine .999 Silver, with Gold Plated and Nickel Silver Bronze. To highlight the unique shape of the coin and as a symbol of Her Majesty’s long reign, we have included a bouquet that covers its surround by showing the Rose of England, the Thistle of Scotland, the Daffodil of Wales and Shamrock of Ireland, which represent the four countries that make up the United Kingdom.

The Queen usually spends her actual birthday privately, but the occasion is marked by gun salutes in London at midday: a 41 gun salute in Hyde Park, a 21 gun salute in Windsor Great Park and a 62 gun salute at the Tower of London. As 2016 was such a historical birthday there was also a thanks giving service held at St Paul’s Cathedral as well as a large street party for 10,000 guests in London’s Mall.

Her Majesty’s 90th Birthday Official Party was held at Windsor Castle on 12th- 15th May 2016, and it was a celebration of The Queen’s life, her dedication to the Commonwealth and international affairs and her deep involvement with the Navy, Army and Air Force.

The design on the coin features a portrait of Her Majesty in the centre of the “0” with the coin value in the centre of the “9”. The surround of the coin features a bouquet holding the national flowers of the countries that form the United Kingdom. The obverse carries Her Majesty’s effigy with a continuation of the bouquet design.
